How does the Citi Custom Cash℠ Card work?
As a welcome bonus, you have $200 in cash back rewards after spending $1,500 on purchases within the first 6 months of card membership. You get 5% cash back on up to $500 you spend on your highest spending category and 1% thereafter. There is one bonus category per billing cycle. All other purchases have a 1% return rate.
There is no annual fee for this card. And the cardholders earn their rewards in ThankYou points that can be redeemed as cash back.

Pros
- Earn $200 cash back after you spend $1,500 on purchases in the first 6 months of account opening. This bonus offer will be fulfilled as 20,000 ThankYou® Points, which can be redeemed for $200 cash back;
- 0% Intro APR on balance transfers and purchases for 15 months (then 18.74% – 28.74% variable, based on your creditworthiness);
- 5% cash back on purchases in your top eligible spend category each billing cycle, up to the first $500 spent, 1% cash back thereafter. Unlimited 1% cash back on all other purchases;
- No rotating bonus categories to sign up for – as your spending changes each billing cycle, your earn adjusts automatically when you spend in any of the eligible categories;
- No Annual Fee.
Cons
- The foreign transaction fee is 3%.
- The card has a great 5% on one bonus category every billing cycle, but the other spending you make will earn only 1%.
- One bonus category limitation per billing cycle.
Should you apply for this card?
This card offers 5% cash back for your highest eligible purchase category up to $500 and comes with no annual fee. If you can match up your biggest expenses with the top rotating categories, you can maximize your rewards.
The 5% cash back options have good categories like groceries and dining. So, if you are looking for good everyday cash back spending categories, you will like this card.
But if you’d rater have a card with a straightforward cash back rate, the Citi Custom Cash℠ Card might not be the best fit for you.
