Application Process for the Old Age Pension
To apply for this government program, you’ll need to go to the nearest office from the SASSA. Then, you’ll need to provide all your personal information, including your income.
Plus, you’ll need to be able to show documents to prove your income and other personal information.
For example, you’ll need proof of residence, marital status, assets, etc. This way, they will be able to complete your application, and you’ll wait for a response.
Usually, you’ll need about three months before you get the response if you got approved for the benefit.

Before you even think about applying for this government benefit, you’ll need to know if you meet some of the requirements. Therefore, here is a list of some of the main requirements to get this benefit:
- Live in South Africa;
- Not be receiving any other social grant;
- Not be receiving treatment in a state facility;
- Be a citizen, permanent resident, or refugee of South Africa;
- Not make more than R86 280 if you are single or R172 560 if married;
- Not be able to prove you have more than R2 455 200 in assets if you’re married than R2 1 227 600 if you’re single.
