A care dependency grant is a social benefit offered by the government of South Africa for those who legally take full-time special care of a disabled child. If you disagree with the decision, you can appeal to the Minister of Social Development at the Department of Social Development. It is important to remember that you need to appeal the decision within 90 days of being notified about the SASSA decision.

Some situations may happen along the way, so your grant would lapse. So, it can happen if: The child turns 18 years old; The child passes away; The child is absent from South Africa; The child is admitted permanently to a state institution. Also, the grant will lapse if the primary legal caregiver doesn’t claim the benefit for three consecutive months.
