The benefit is paid monthly, and you will get R1 980. However, the application process is not fast or simple. Then, it is important to fully understand how the grant works and how to apply for it.
If you have any doubts about the Care dependency grant, you must contact the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA). Then, you can call 0800 60 10 11 or email them at [email protected].
In case your application is not approved, the South African Social Security Agency will contact you to inform the decision. If you disagree with the decision, you can appeal to the Minister of Social Development at the Department of Social Development. It is important to remember that you need to appeal the decision within 90 days of being notified about the SASSA decision.
Some situations may happen along the way, so your grant would lapse. So, it can happen if: The child turns 18 years old; The child passes away; The child is absent from South Africa; The child is admitted permanently to a state institution. Also, the grant will lapse if the primary legal caregiver doesn’t claim the benefit for three consecutive months.
