How does the American Express Cobalt® Card work?
First of all, as a new cardmember, you can get a good welcome bonus, valued in points. In other words, you can earn up to 50,000 Membership Rewards points after spending at least $500 each month in the first year and $3,000 in the first three months.
In addition to that, you earn a point on each dollar spent on eligible purchases, as follows:
- 5 points on eligible purchases at restaurants and food delivery;
- 3 points on eligible streaming subscriptions;
- 2 points on travel and transit in Canada;
- 1 point on everything else;
- An extra point on the Amex Travel Online program.
Plus, you get coverage, insurance, and perks offered by Amex.

American Express Cobalt® benefits
Cobalt® offers a great package of rewards and bonuses, as you can see. That is the main advantage of being an American Express credit card. You can enjoy living your life and get rewarded and assured for it.
On the other hand, you must know that it charges a monthly fee of $12.99 and a 2.5% foreign transaction fee.
Also, the Membership Rewards points are available only for purchases in Canada. So, you won’t get rewarded when traveling around the world.
